Gabriel Okuribido

I'm Gabriel — I turn customer pain into product opportunity. At Toast, I run discovery for payments and international expansion, talking to sales, ops, and engineering to find the bottlenecks that matter. On my own time, I ship software that solves problems I've seen firsthand.

At Toast

Led discovery for EasyPay international expansion. Interviewed stakeholders across Sales, Pay-Ops, and Adyen. Identified friction points that shaped the pilot and GA launch.

Approach

Discovery before development. Forums reveal pain points surveys miss. Prioritize ruthlessly. Ship, learn, iterate.

Compliance for Irish landlords

The Problem

Irish landlords face a maze of regulations — RTB registration, rent caps, certificates, tax rules — with major changes coming March 2026. Most are learning the hard way.

"I watched landlords in forums ask the same confused questions over and over. There had to be a better way."

The Solution

  • Property dashboard for tenancies and documents
  • RPZ calculator for legal rent increases
  • Notice generator for compliant communications
  • Deadline calendar for registrations and renewals
  • Tax export for Form 11 filing

Key Decisions

  • Legally-hedged content — every fact links to official sources
  • Focus on "accidental landlords" with 1-3 properties
  • Education before automation

What I Learned

  • Forums reveal pain points surveys never would
  • Simplifying legal language is harder than building features
  • Compliance is emotional — users need reassurance, not just information
  • Discovery before development saves wasted effort

EasyPay Discovery

Toast — Payments & International

Discovery Stakeholder Research Product Strategy

The Context

EasyPay is Toast's simplified payment onboarding for international markets. The initiative needed clarity on what was blocking sales teams and slowing down merchant activation across new regions.

My Role

I ran discovery to understand the EasyPay rollout process and standard rate card experience — not as an assigned task, but because I wanted to learn how product discovery works at scale and contribute to something real.

The Process

  • Interviewed stakeholders across Sales, Pay-Ops, and Adyen teams
  • Mapped the end-to-end onboarding flow and identified friction points
  • Documented pain points from sales reps using the system daily
  • Identified operational bottlenecks in the activation process
  • Synthesized findings into opportunities and milestones

"The best discovery comes from talking to the people closest to the problem — sales reps who hear objections, ops teams who fix edge cases, engineers who know where the system breaks."

The Outcome

The discovery work contributed to Toast's EasyPay pilot and informed the path to general availability. Insights from stakeholder interviews shaped how the team prioritized fixes and sequenced the rollout.

What I Learned

  • Cross-functional alignment requires speaking each team's language
  • Sales pain often reveals product gaps that metrics miss
  • Discovery at a large company means navigating existing systems, not starting fresh
  • The best opportunities come from synthesis, not just collection
